I decided to try out firefox the other day to see how bad it’s incompatibility issues were with IE centric web pages, Well I was astonished and felt sorry for the poor people who use it as most web pages did not work well, I’m glad to know now that it’s due to a buggy release.

Thanks. I must admit that I would easily recommend building a boat to pretty much anyone, based on our experiences to date. We’ve had a few problems, but it continues to be exceedingly enjoyable.

Sorry, but you guys are going to have to get a hand plane and learn how to sharpen the blade.
I’ve done two glued-lap boats and the most important connection in the whole boat is the “lands” where the planks fit together. It’s a constantly-changing bevel and just can’t be done any other way than with a plane. Sanding (which I tried) rounds over the corners. You only get a nice, crisp angle with a plane.
It’s not all that hard to do, as long as you keep the blade really sharp and use long sweeping strokes instead of hacking away the way I did when I first started out. And it’s fun to see those long, good-smelling shavings come off as the shape comes into the wood. You really feel like an old-timey boatbuilder instead of a machinist. I think a site I did about one of the boats is still up: pkessinger@geocities.com.
Good luck, great blog.
